Chapter 14

I quickly showered, threw a few things into a gym bag, including my camera and lenses, and walked to the dock. The dock itself extended a good ways into the clear blue green waters of the gulf. The waterways around the Keys were both gorgeous and treacherous. Shallow in many areas, easy to founder on a sandbar or worse yet, rip open your hull on a reef. In my earlier trip to the boat, I had familiarized myself with the controls and the many electronic navigation guides. This time, I ran through a quick digital checklist and started the two powerful diesel motors. We were on shore power at the dock, but I wanted to switch over to the internal generators and make sure everything stayed powered up, including the air conditioners.

As I finished my check I heard Kenedi and Lilly coming down the dock Their voices carrying over the low ‘lub, lub’ of the engines. I heard laughter intermixed with words too soft to catch. I shifted my seat, so I could see the dock and the girls walking to the boat. They each had a small bag in hand and were wearing flip flops and nothing else. The view was worth admiring for their entire stroll to the gangway, or forever. As if they knew I was admiring them, they seemed to pick up that indefinable strut of a runway model. You know, the one that says, I’m sexy, I know it and every move I make shows it .

“Ahoy skipper! Permission to come aboard,” called out Kenedi. The two walked across the small gangway and onto the aft deck. I climbed down from the flying bridge and gave each a hug and kiss as they arrived.

“Avast there, lubbers.” I growled in my best pirate voice. “Hope you have sunscreen.”

Kenedi looked at me with playful scorn. Not to be outdone, Lilly rolled her eyes. “Please, you didn’t just do that?” They both giggled at me, nearly falling into each other's arms. Sheesh, no respect . I thought, but then joined with a little laugh of my own.

Lilly told me they were ready and that she had brought some drinks and snacks down while Kenedi and I were having fun. I told her I loved her, and meant it, then left Kenedi and Lilly to sort out their things, unhitched our lines, and steered us out.

An hour later I was on the bridge, watching two gorgeous, nude women sunbathe as we slowly motored to a spot I picked out to drop anchor. I was content, loving life when my phone, which I placed on the console, buzzed with an incoming text. I didn’t recognize the number when I looked. Normally, I would have ignored it, but I had one of those strange feelings. Besides, it was a few minutes until we reached the anchorage. Hitting the print sensor on the front of the phone, I quickly opened the text.

The message read: Too bad about the loft. Nice computers. You think the encryption is good enough to keep us out? Be in touch.
