“Golden Hour” by JVKE

Requested by Lilian-@the_reading_nook_1

After we take pictures for a little while in the snow at the cabin, we make our way down into the town to where we’re having the reception. We’re serving a late lunch and plan to hang out and dance with everyone for a couple of hours.

It was all I could get Nick to promise. He didn’t want to spend a ton of time with other people on our wedding day.

He wanted to spend time with me.

“Hungry?” he asks when we pull into the parking lot of the little venue we chose.

“Starving, honestly.”

“I spoke to Marissa the other day when I called her to make sure we were still all good to go, and she asked if we wanted the small room at the back set up with some food so that we could eat before we went out with the guests.”

“Oh, my God,” I moan. “That sounds fucking fantastic.”

“Right?” he says, clearly proud of himself for saying yes to Marissa. “I thought you’d like that. Receptions are busy as hell. We wouldn’t have gotten a single bite of anything in there.”

“And how do we get into that little room without everyone seeing?” I ask him, raising an eyebrow.

“She’s leaving the back door unlocked for us.” He wags his eyebrows. “Gonna leave your back door open for me, princess?”

“Ugh!” I groan, giving him a playful shove. He just laughs and grabs my hands, kissing the knuckles before getting out of the car and running around to my side. He helps me out, holding my dress up so that it doesn’t drag across the ground as we jog over to the back of the venue.

A blast of warm air welcomes us as we enter, and then Marissa is standing there, welcoming us in.

“Hi! You’re here!” she calls. “Come on in this way. I just had a few plates put in the room for you a minute ago. Take. Your. Time,” she tells us, enunciating each of those words by pointing back and forth between us. “Your guests can wait for twenty minutes while you eat.”

She shows us into what looks kind of like a staff room with a single table and a few chairs. The smell of the food goes right to my stomach, and an embarrassingly loud growl echoes through the little room.

“Sorry,” I mutter.

They both laugh, and Nick pulls me in for a kiss on the head.

“Just shoot me a text when you’re done, and I’ll come get you. We’ll get you introduced to the room and get the party started.”

With a smile, she’s gone.

Over the next ten minutes, we sit and eat together, talking about the wedding and how great everyone looked and how much fun we’ve had so far. We talk about how much we missed each other over the past couple of days and how ready we are to be back at the cabin with only each other for the rest of the night.

“Come here,” he says, tugging on my arm a bit.
