Chapter 12

Arriving home, the two men had discovered that they had visitors. Nicky stood off to the side as he watched Lance greet the man and the short, young woman who held his hand. She peeked up at Nicky often as if wanting to talk to him.

“If I’d known you were here, I would have let you handle the breech birth we just discovered in progress,” Lance greeted them with a handshake for the man and a gentle smile at his companion.

“Is everything okay?” the vet asked in concern.

“Yes, thank you. Nature just needed a bit of help. Nicky, this is Bart Jennings. He’s a veterinarian who lives part-time in SANCTUM. This is his Little girl, Alma,” Lance took care of the introductions before inviting them into the kitchen.

“Nicky, get the milk and two root beers out of the refrigerator. Look in that last cabinet and get two sippy cups down for me. You’ll need to run the cups under the water first to clean them,” Lance calmly instructed as he waved Bart into a chair at the table. His Little needed something to do to keep him busy as Nicky adjusted to having others around.

He kept an eye on Nicky as he explained to Bart what they had just found in the field. To his delight, the moment the Daddies began to talk, Alma cozied up to Nicky to make friends.
