ROWAN

An hour of conversation goes by in a whirl of smiles and laughter. We still haven’t left our spot, other than to order another mini pizza for Hudson. I’ve never had this much fun just chatting with a date before, and Hudson seems to be enjoying himself just as much.

“Would you like to try a piece of my pizza, baby?” Hudson holds out a slice of his vegetarian pizza, and yeah okay, I’ve never seen a man moan this much over food and part of me thinks he’s doing all these sexy, manly groans to punish me, but I am totally obsessed with the sounds he’s been making.

I wonder if I can get him to make those noises in bed?

“Baby?” Hudson asks.

“I’m sorry, Daddy. I got distracted.” I slide my foot up his calf and smirk. I’m tempted to take my shoe off and slide my foot even higher. “I like the way you call me baby.”

He chuckles, low and husky. Okay, what the fuck? Are we eating dinner or is this one huge game of foreplay? He’s been calling me baby all night, and I’ve been calling him Daddy. I can’t ignore the effect the title has on him, just like he can’t ignore how many times I’ve used it. And fuck, everything between us already feels so natural. How is that even possible? Is it because we’ve known each other for years, or are we just that compatible?

“So, what exactly do you do for Smooth Getaways? Wait–” I snap my fingers just realizing something. “Isn’t that the same travel agency that partnered up with the Carousel App?”

“The one and only. I’ve been working for the company for eight years now. I help plan vacations. It’s honestly so much fun. Especially when we do events like this, and someone gets to go on an inexpensive or free vacation. I always think about people like my mom, who would have loved an opportunity to go somewhere on a budget.”

Hudson smiles. “At least now she has a wonderful boyfriend who loves to spoil her with the trips she wasn’t able to afford when I was growing up.”

“Okay, so what's one of your favorite trips you’ve planned?”

“Actually, the last three trips I’ve planned have all been my favorites.” Hudson drums his fingers on the table. “The funny thing is, they’ve all been for Sweetheart Escapes getaways.”

“That’s so cool. Can you tell me about them?” I ask. “Why were they your favorites?”

“Okay. So, as you know, the travel agent is supposed to plan the trip for the winning couples. Well, every once in a while we get a phone call from one of the bidders. They actually ask to join in on part of the planning process. They either want to surprise their date or make it more personable.”

“Oh my god, I didn’t even know they could do that.” I wonder if Hudson planned part of our trip.
