8. Addendum

On 30 January 2013, with more than 13,500 viewers and 50 sold-out shows, the play ‘La vie c’est comme un arbre’ was awarded the prestigious ‘Bruxellois de l’année 2012’ (Bruxellois of the Year: 2012) award (also winning in the category of culture). Thanks to this success the actors have been afforded much greater exposure in the media as well as recognition for their artistic efforts and talents.

6. From our interviews we find these artists want, above all, to be recognised as artists full stop regardless of their migrant backgrounds. Furthermore, studies show that these young people have been often stigmatised by being seen through security and cultural lenses (Réa 2001).
