Jungle headquarters was the largest and strangest building that Vexx could have imagined. It had taken her an hour to decipher the transit schedule Jackie had left for her, but she eventually figured it out. When she stepped off the bus in front of the trio of spherical buildings, she stood on the sidewalk, drizzle speckling her face with cool mist for at least a minute.

How the fuck do I get inside?

It didn’t take long for someone to walk past her, heading toward a staggeringly high tower which loomed directly behind the rounded structures. She tried to look inconspicuous, following behind the man at what she thought was a reasonable distance, but she stood out and after a few yards, the man stopped and turned to look at her.

“I don’t have any money,” he said with a disgruntled expression.

“What?” Vexx replied, confused.

“You’re like, some kind of busker right? I don’t have anything. I’m just trying to get to work, man.” He turned and walked briskly away, quickly disappearing behind the gleaming spheres.

What the fuck is a busker?

Confused and a little annoyed, Vexx headed in the direction the man had gone. The tower was huge: colorful panes of glass and gleaming steel reflecting the street below. The Jungle logo was inlaid into the street. Men and women in various levels of business attire stepped over it, entering the building through a set of triple glass doors. Vexx had the mildly uncomfortable thought that they looked like souls entering Infernius.

Vexx took a deep breath and smoothed down her pants. She had chosen an outfit that she thought looked like something a human businesswoman might wear—black pants that ended just above her ankle, black heels, and a fitted black blazer over the emerald green top. She’d done her best with the extremely limited amount of makeup she found in Jackie’s bathroom, attempting to make her skintone a little closer to human. She still looked a little grey, and there wasn’t anything she could do about her eyes, but she thought she didn’t stick out that much in the city. People were weird. She could pass for a weird person, right? She had pinned her hair over her small horns into two small buns, and glancing around at the people on the street, she thought she’d done a pretty good job.

She followed the stream of people into the building, wracking her brain to try and recall the name of Seth’s assistant. She had met the woman a handful of times, and they’d hit it off fairly well. Melinda? Maritza? Matilda? It was warm inside the building. Colorful couches and funky, modern-styled chairs were scattered about the lobby. The walls were video screens, playing advertisements and infographics about Jungle, and the many services it offered. She looked around for some sort of front desk and spotted a pair of bored looking twenty-somethings sitting behind a red and yellow modular unit that looked like stacked rectangles.

As she stepped up to the desk, her mind finally found the name she’d been looking for.
