Backup and Restore Limitations

There are many limitations and caveats when restoring a backup via Apple Configurator. For starters, understand that iOS backups do not contain any parts of the iOS system or apps. iOS backups are designed to save only documents and configuration information. (Backing up the iOS system and apps doesn’t make much sense because you can always download them again for free from Apple’s servers.)

Note

iOS backups do not include content that is synced via iTunes. This not only includes apps but also music, pictures, and movies. The exception to this is items still stored in the Camera Roll that have not yet been synced.
