Workplace Romance

Weeks later, it was the end of August. Marcus was on call and getting ready to sit down to eat dinner when his phone rang.

“Hello,” he said. It wasn’t the on call service but rather one of his PA’s in the office. “What’s going on, Patty?”

“Marcia Williams was just in a car accident. Front-end collision and Ellis called us because it looks like one of her implants ruptured. They could see from her chart that her reconstruction was done there by you last year. It needs to come out, the question is do you want to do it or them?”

“Me,” he said. “I’m not having them mess up my work.” He had no clue what size implants or the kind Marcia had in, not without pulling out his laptop. “Check to see what we’ve got in the office close enough to replace for her. Is she awake to talk to?”

“She is,” Patty said. “Though the hospital called to ask, she was insistent she didn’t want them doing the surgery.”

He grinned. “I love the loyalty of our patients. Can you meet me there within the hour?” He knew that Patty was on call too and she’d have to go to the office to get what was needed, but he wasn’t sure where she lived.

“I’ll be there before an hour with any luck.”

He had some time so he shoveled his food in his mouth, threw the dishes in the sink and made sure everything was off after he changed into scrubs.

He beat Patty to the hospital, went to the ER and found Marcia. “Hey, how are you feeling?”

“Not bad,” Marcia said. “Can you fix the cut on my head too? I gave them crap when they wanted to stitch it up, saying you would do a better job since you were coming.”

He laughed. She had gauze on her head, so he reached up to remove it and saw that they’d put butterfly stitches there to stop the bleeding. “I can fix that. I’ll take care of it when you’re out. Patty is on the way with your new implants. I’m not sure what we’ve got available, so be aware you might be a little bigger or smaller.”

“It’s fine,” she said. “They told me that they’d just take them out here and I don’t want that either. Then need to go in for surgery again. I can’t believe this happened.”

“Accidents are called that for a reason,” he said.

“Yeah,” Marcia said.

“Any other injuries I need to worry about?” he asked. He was looking at her chart and not seeing anything.

“No. The person ran a stop sign and hit the passenger front. My seat belt seemed to do the most damage.”

“We’ll get you fixed up. You know after all the work I did to get you perfect, you might need more fat grafting.”

Marcia laughed. “Oh no, free lippo again. What a horrible thing to happen.”
