“It’s three days until full moon.” Sam sits between us, hands on our legs. “At least try it until then?”

“Try what?” Roy’s voice is slow as he moves sideways and then looks at us, his brain taking a moment to catch up to the conversation. “Living together?”

“Yes, living together.” Sam nods, as if it is the most normal thing to talk about living arrangements right after sex.

“I don’t... I don’t know.” Roy shakes his head. “I’m not good at living together with other people.”

“But we’re not just people. It’s us.” Sam looks at me, his eyes wide and he is gnawing on his lower lip. “Right?”

I lean over and kiss him. Hell, Sam has thought about this all way too much in the past weeks. I wrap my arms around him and pull him close as I kiss him again. I know that he feels like this is the right thing to do, but Roy is not like us, not yet.

I swallow, trying to find the right words to explain why Sam is so insistent on Roy living here. Though, sure, he only lives next door, but inside the gate is our world, outside the gate? Not our world. To Sam, our world is safe, the outside world isn’t.

“What is it?” Roy touches my arm softly.

“Werewolves usually live in small families together, or at least, they live partnered in houses close together, usually next door to each other. But, if we’re going to make this work, we wouldn’t be a pack, we’d be the main couple, trio.” We’ve lived like that before, before Sam became restless. “That thing you feel, that connection with Sam. It’s stronger for Sam because his transformation is already complete.”

“Not just Sam.” Roy’s whisper makes me look up. “Not just a connection with Sam.” He licks his lips as he looks away.

The words hit me in my stomach, not just Sam. I don’t know what to say, how to act. They look so good together, they fit so well together. And it isn’t like it doesn’t happen that trio’s fall apart after a while because the connection between two is stronger than with the other one. I don’t know if this is a good idea, not if his connection is divided between the both of us. I don’t want Sam to ever get hurt like that.

I stand up, grab a towel from the rack and wrap it around me as I walk out of the bathroom. It’s too much, I can’t think of this right now. I hadn’t expected this and it is scary.

“Clyde?” Roy calls after me but then I hear Sam’s voice and they’re quiet.

I walk to the back of the house, the light outside dim and the moon is high in the sky. Almost full, Roy will almost be one of us.
