Chapter Nineteen

Ny and I were up early, showered and put on fresh clothes. We met Cherise and Lauda in the dining room for a breakfast of ham slices, eggs, fruit, and coffee. We didn’t mention yesterday as we ate our breakfast in near silence. I felt the ship lurch as they withdrew the anchor from the sea bed. After the anchor found it’s place on the ship, the engines surged the ship forward at a moderate pace.

An hour later, we were on the dock, bidding farewell to Captain Ari. He was pleasant this morning, but still contrite. We all shook his hand as the dock porter gathered our bags and stowed them in a van that was our ride to Talala. We would check into the lodge for our stay and visit the Asiatic lion sanctuary. This was the place that Bastet had mentioned that I might find a new mate. We’ll see if that works out.

The lodge at the sanctuary’s entrance wasn’t as far as I first thought it was. It took a few hours to complete our trip. Our check in time took nearly as long as the drive to the lodge. Cherise had taken care of the bookings before we arrived and we had excellent rooms. Cherise, Ny, and I had a large suite with two king-size beds. The rooms also had a sitting area outside the bedroom and, naturally, an enormous bathroom. Lauda had a similar suite. Lauda’s room seemed like an overkill to me, but I would find out later why it was necessary.

Our food arrangement was to be at a quality restaurant in the lodge. I hoped that part of our food would be fresh red meat, if not, we could hunt as a pride. This would depend on whether we could get away from a tour guide if we had one. I wasn’t sure of the sightseeing arrangements at the preserve. At Timbavati, we had a lot of leeway and even used our own crew for our last days. We may not be so lucky at this site, so we had to wait and see.

After we took possession of our rooms and stashed our personal things, we got a briefing from Maahes. Lauda’s magic tablet gave us a heads up on our day’s schedule. Sitting at the coffee table in Ny and my room, Lauda opened her tablet and shared the messages. The first item addressed by the message was stats. Yep, stats for me and the girls. Rather than read all the statistics, Lauda just laid the tablet on the table and let us read.
