Iwalked with Sofia, in an almost trance-like state, as we headed back to the mansion. Those soldiers hadn’t been joking, the monsters really had retreated from Brightla, breaking off their assault.

Either they had gotten tired of attacking, which was unlikely, or that roar had called them away. If that was true, then I had a funny feeling we would end up learning about the source of that disturbing roar soon enough.

My manga senses were always right when it came to this sort of stuff, when they weren’t focused on the maidens anyway.

Sofia didn’t let go of my arm at any point in our walk home. Her eyes practically screamed that she was going to jump my bones the minute we were behind closed doors. Why did I have a feeling it was so that she could get pregnant again?

Sometimes my manga senses tingling like this didn’t always mean what I thought it did, though. It was better than me at figuring these things out.

In any case, I noticed that quite a crowd had formed outside their homes and like the gossip I was met with when I first crash landed on the street, they talked like fan girls at my return.

“It’s the Lord! It’s the Lord!”

“And there’s the First Daughter!”

“They are so beautiful together!”

“What I wouldn’t give to have one night with that piece of…”

I distinctly chose not to acknowledge the last piece of that comment—else the villagers would see their Lord actively throttle one of their own.

Although, no doubt, some of the ladies would think my defending Sofia’s honor was so romantic. Others would still love me because of my handsome face, so maybe there wouldn’t be too many repercussions. Hmmm, it wasn’t such a bad idea, really…

The damage inside the village’s walls was fairly minimal. In fact, the only signs there had been an attack at all, were the occasional dead bodies of Heartless Harpies scattered around. There some blood splatters on certain streets, but no bodies.

Another thing that caused quite a commotion, though, was that some of the bodies had those strange rainbow colors all over them.

There was even one unfortunate lump of feathers and blood, where half of it looked like the remains of a Heartless Harpy and the other half was a glitchy mess of vibrant colors and pixelated shapes.

Whenever anyone got close to the weird looking corpses, they would disappear until there was nothing but a splash of blood on the stones. I guessed the bodies reacted to this merging of conflicts whenever people got too close.

The Wyverns above had finally started doing something more than float lazily up into the sky. I saw a group of them break off and head in our direction, the largest of the Wyverns leading the way.

Kavola was at the mansion when we arrived.

“Is that a…” Sofia was about to ask, and I answered her.

“Black Terror Wyvern? Sure is!” I beamed, “His name is Kavola.”

Sofia and the guards following us stopped just before the Wyvern and I saw Evaleen hop off him and promptly start towards us, her eyes on Sofia.
