I felt really bad when I got back to my cell. I don’t want to burden anyone and I definitely don’t want Mrs. Sanford upset. It’s just been so long since someone showed real concern for me. I wound up saying more than I intended to. She really seemed to care.

In here, you can’t open up much to people. I’m friendly toward everyone. But I keep a lot to myself. You have to be very careful who you trust. It’s usually better to tough out the bad times yourself. But I’m worrying now that I said too much. I hope Mrs. Sanford is not upset. I don’t want that. I don’t want to be depressing during visits. I doubt people come all this way just to get depressed. Thankfully she’ll be back tomorrow so I can do a better job and not get her worrying.
