Johanna locked the door behind the last guest, happy that all of the other museum staff had left for the day. It was Monday and the first day of the new exhibit in the photography wing and she’d been on pins and needles the entire day waiting for her shift to begin.

Sydney had called her and they had a tentative date for tomorrow for lunch but tonight. Tonight was all about the art. She made her rounds, hurriedly walking through the various halls checking temperatures and securing the doors. Finally it was time.

She approached the show, her heart beating wild in her chest. Would anyone know it was her? Jo scanned the other pictures, delighting in them just as she had the first time. Then her eyes stopped on one picture in particular. It was down at the end, in the last place just as Sydney had said it would be.

It didn’t seem like her. The wanton swell of kiss swollen lips and the hair splayed out on the woman’s shoulder. The black lingerie just barely visible in the blurred edges. But it was. Just under the glass, she found herself looking back, the art speaking to no one but her.

Beautiful.

With joy in her heart, Johanna smiled.
