Standing on Helvellyn for me certainly felt like a big tick and one of the great achievements in fellwalking. If you stay in any B&B in this area, somebody some day will ask you ‘have you done Helvellyn and Striding Edge?’ Of course, now I can say ‘Yes’. Because I didn’t have the very best conditions or always the clearest of views however, so the pull of Helvellyn is still there. I am now one of those devotees looking for the chance to return to this ‘friendly giant’.
