If the vein is especially ‘rolly’ you may need to place your finger on the vein itself and pull back. This stabilizes the vein and prevents it from rolling when the needle is advanced. But be careful not to press too hard causing the vein to collapse.
Stabilizing a Shallow Vein
Shallow veins require a lower angle of insertion. You may notice that your thumb or fingers “get in the way” of the device forcing you to use a deeper angle. This method keeps your fingers out of the way but does not hold as traction as well.
Adjust the patients arm to a position comfortable for you.
