Chapter Six

Once again, I was torn between my genuine love of the lady and her professional interests. I reluctantly put all my concerns aside and continued to support Fiona. On the next Wednesday, I drove Fiona as usual to the house in Crawley as I have done for a few months now.

"You don't want to be sitting in the car for hours," Fiona said as she was about to get out of the car on our arrival. " I am on my own today, once I have arrived Mistress Alice is leaving, she has an appointment somewhere else. If I have any clients today you can sit in the kitchen and read the newspapers. I can also show you around the house which you have yet to see inside," she added. “I am sure you must be curious about what the house is like and where I work. So what do you say?"

I must admit I was indeed curious as to what the house looked like inside and if she is on her own she would undoubtedly feel a lot safer with me in the building, so I agreed. So we both walked over to the house from the car park, which as I mentioned once before looked a little bit run down and neglected on the outside in a small row of similar houses, this was obviously the less salubrious side of town. I suspect Mistress Alice chose this house deliberately as it was in a neighbourhood where her activities wouldn’t attract unwanted attention.

Just as we arrived, Mistress Alice opened the door as we approached, she must have seen us coming, and passed Fiona her key and gave me a half-hearted nod and said she had to dart straight off to her appointment and would see her later. I concluded she didn’t much like the look of me.

I followed Fiona into the house and was pleasantly surprised to find out the inside of the house was so very different to the outside. It was clean, tidy and tastefully furnished. The first thing I saw was the living room which looked very comfortable with a three-piece sofa and armchairs. It could have been anybody's living room. I also noted the expensive, top-of-the-range ‘Bose’ high-fidelity system. Then we stepped into the kitchen which was something to die for, it really did appeal to me. The room was themed on a country kitchen and had pseudo oak beams and was adorned with dozens of horse brasses. What I loved the most was the Aga Rangemaster cooker, which was dark green with brass knobs and would have cost an absolute fortune to buy new or second-hand. There was also a little alcove with bench seats and well worn solid oak kitchen table. I could have happily spent my whole life in this kitchen it was very me.

However, what Mistress Fiona was anxious to show me was the rest of the house which is where her interest lay not the kitchen or the living room.
