CHAPTER 18

ROB

I didn’t ask to stay the night after the evening at his house, and Grayson didn’t offer, but I texted him when I got home and he answered me almost immediately. Something between us had finally shifted for the better, and while I don’t think either of us had planned for that when we’d gotten going, ignoring it at this point was impossible.

He’d given me so much.

I wanted more, of course. I wanted everything, but Grayson was like a startled colt and I would sit on my hands for months if that was what it took for him to understand that he could trust me. While he and I were similar in so many ways, the longer things unraveled between us, the more I began to wonder if he was a dominant out of nature or out of necessity. I thought back to the time he told me third parties weren’t reliable and I wanted to agree, but also prove him wrong.

So, for as much as it killed me, I let him take the lead with things after that night. I didn’t push or prod, and I was careful to not tease. I asked, I waited, I showed him more patience than anyone had ever seen out of me in my entire life. But beyond that, he gave no indication anything between us had changed. At least, not in public. He still answered my text messages promptly, he took my calls, and on one occasion, he’d even brought me coffee.

The only question answered with silence was when I asked if I could take him out on a proper date. I knew a place. The time was right. I wanted to finally have the conversation we’d been fucking our way around for weeks. That night at his house, Grayson had shown me a part of himself I didn’t think many people got to know, and instead of being satisfied, it made me greedy. I wanted more. I wanted it all.

While I waited for an answer, I settled into my Jacuzzi with a drink, set to enjoy as much of the night as I could manage without his company.

“You look about two minutes away from drowning,” Archie called from the other side of the yard, flipping the latch on the gate and heading toward me. He was dressed
