Chapter 25

Serenity

I was really shaken up by the time that I entered my hotel room after the meeting with Jason. I needed to get in control of my wayward emotions, and quick.

I’m not the type of woman that has a relationship with two men at the same time, least of all brothers, I thought to myself.

I needed somebody to talk to. My best friend Shauntay was the first person that came to mind. I punched in her phone number hoping that she would answer. I knew that she had a deadline with her book to be met but she would just have to understand. This was an emergency.

The phone rang once then twice before her cheerful voice began to speak. “Serenity, why are you calling me from Vegas? You should be out exploring and living it up, honey.”

“I need to talk to my best friend. I am not going to beat around the bush so I will get straight to the point.”

“This sounds serious, do tell… I am all ears.”

“I had lunch with Jason earlier at a small café on the strip. He said that he thought it was time for us to talk. I agreed to it and met up with him in the lobby downstairs. We walked the short distance to the café and had a scrumptious lunch.”

“So what was the problem, Serenity? It sounds to me like you had a pleasant enough time,” my friend cut in to say.

“I’m getting to the point if you will just hold your horses. Okay?”

Shauntay giggled into the phone before she spoke. “Well get on with it, then.”

I breathed into the receiver before speaking. “When lunch was over and I was feeling a slight buzz from the wine. Jason blurted out his attraction for me out of the blue. It’s one thing to feel a person is attracted to you but to know it for sure is a whole different ballgame.”

“Serenity, you had to know that it was going to come out sooner than later. It’s a good thing that it’s out, now you know how to handle it. But whatever you do, don’t tell Jonathan.”

“Who do you think you’re are talking to? I wouldn’t dare tell Jon about this predicament. I’m no fool. It would probably be the ruin of our relationship and the relationship that he has with his brother, as well. Plus, Emma-Jay threw daggers at me through the whole flight here.”

“If she can feel something amiss with you and Jason, how long do you think it will take Jonathan to figure things out? I think that you should go back to your original plan and avoid Jason as much as possible.”

“I think you’re right, Shaun. I love Jonathan so much. I never want anything, least of all his twin brother, to come between us. He’s so good to me.”

“He’s a keeper, Serenity. I know I tease you a lot about the twins, but I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes for a million dollars. Tell me the truth.
