Chapter eleven

Theo

Iglanced at Lex from across the living room, where he leaned against the overabundant food table with a beer in hand.

We’d both arrived early to Rhys and Cole’s housewarming party, and neither of us had discussed how the hell we were supposed to act around each other after having fucked each other’s brains out a few days earlier. Since he’d left the morning after, it had been radio silence, which was exactly on track with my plans—very one-night stand-ish of me. Except my stupid body hadn’t caught the memo. The bolt of lust that had thundered through me the second I caught sight of Lex was too intense to ignore.

However, we’d just sniped at each other a bit, returning to the status quo from before, and retreated to separate sides of the room.

Lex glanced up, and those ice-blue eyes flashed.

“Theo?” Liam waved a hand in front of my face.

Right. I was in the middle of a conversation, not a stare-off with the guy who’d given me one of the best orgasms of my life. Fuck, I hated how memorable the hookup with Lex had been and how much I’d been gagging for his cock. But he’d goddamn delivered.

“Oh, it’s like that, is it?” Liam said, tipping his head in Lex’s direction. “Please don’t tell me you’re hung up on Lex. What happened to fucking around and not dating?”

“Why would I be hung up on him?” I snorted. Liam lifted a brow, clearly not buying my bullshit. Maeve and Liam were my oldest friends, and I couldn’t get away with much around either of them despite having a reasonable game face. By some miracle, Maeve wasn’t hounding me, probably because she’d brought a new friend with her to flirt with. But Liam was aware. I leaned in closer and lowered my voice. “Fine, we fucked. But that’s it.”

Liam shook his head. “Lex is awesome, but you realize if you guys date and break up, that’s going to cause a lot of complications, right?”

“We just fucked,” I muttered, running my fingers through my hair. “Lex has been nothing but a douchebag to me, so there’s no way there’d be more.” Even to myself I sounded unconvincing. Goddamn. I sucked at one-night stands. Mostly because after getting fucked so hard my teeth went numb, the idea of throwing myself back on the app for mediocre lays annoyed me. But Lex wasn’t even acknowledging me, just lurking on the other side of the room in obvious avoidance, so whatever.

“Oh god, is the kitchen on fire?” Rhys shouted as he raced past us. He’d been buzzing the entire party, clearly worried that everything would snowball into a disaster.

“It’s not on fire,” Cole announced loud enough for everyone else to hear so mass hysteria didn’t kick up. The man was the perfect partner for Rhys, the calm for his perpetual storm.

Kelsey snorted as she followed the pair of them. “There’s a precedent for his fears, you know.”

I shook my head, the scene stealing away some of my annoyance with Lex’s cool and unaffected attitude and Liam’s prying.
