Hannah

The condo feels empty without Brock despite his sister being here with me. I keep looking at her, wondering if she feels stuck babysitting me. She says we’re friends, and while I don’t remember her, that feels true. Still, I’m sure she has better things to do than watch me flounder.

“What do you want to do this afternoon after you do your physical therapy exercises?” Lindsey asks.

“I did them earlier before you woke up. I want to explore the condo. It feels familiar, and yet it’s not.”

“Where do you want to start?”

“The bedroom.” Maybe I’ll have some clues hidden in there that will give me insight into the marriage I remember nothing about.

She hops up, ready to explore. I have a moment of panic that maybe Brock would be pissed about us going through his stuff but push it aside. He claims to want me to remember. Once inside the bedroom, I’m overwhelmed. Everything is so organized. That has to be a Brock thing. I remember his dorm room was spotless where mine was the opposite. “I don’t know where to begin.”

Lindsey thinks for a moment, then smiles. “Let’s start with the nightstand. That’s where I keep all my dirty secrets.”

She goes to one and pulls open the top drawer. “I’m guessing this one’s Brock’s.”

“What makes you say that?”

She curls her lip as she holds up a bottle of lube and a box of tissues.

My hand shoots to my mouth. “Put that back! We’re not supposed to see that.”
