CHAPTER 7

As I waited for the night to come, things progressed slowly during the day.

George stayed unconscious, prompting his doctor to schedule him for multiple tests the next day. His parents flew to Santa Barbara from their vacation in St. Martin to attend to their son, and the trio of his guy friends came back to the hotel after lunch hour. They spoke with the two female members of PAAS, saying the party was over and they should immediately go back to L.A.

With the men leaving Santa Barbara at around two o’clock in the afternoon, Suze was the only one still remaining at George’s bedside. When she came back to take a bath and grab some of her belongings, she filled me in on her crush’s condition. She was less panicky than she was last night, but she looked tired and worried at the same time.

I hadn’t become a fan of George Butina yet, but at this point, even I could see Suze’s feelings toward him was more than a crush. I’d made up my mind to successfully persuade the ghost to give up on him as soon as possible but I wanted to rest up before dealing with the ghost.

At around four o’clock in the afternoon, I lay down to take a nap in my room after setting an alarm on my phone. Since I hadn’t slept well last night and was planning to stay awake all night tonight, I wanted to be as well rested as possible. Instead of waking up to my alarm, I woke up to the feelings of fluffiness by my side. Opening one eye, I tried to see what was happening, and—

“Champ!” I was fully awake now and sat up.

He was standing by my side of the bed, proudly wagging his tails and patting my hand with his paw. In his mouth, he was carrying a new set of cards for the energy barrier.

“Thank you so very much, Champ! Woo-hoo! You brought me new cards!” I hugged him, stroking his golden fur and scratching behind his ears. I didn’t know about the mechanisms of how he traveled between Jack and me while carrying the cards, but I was so happy with the reunion.
