Hadley and I were having a blast on the playground. Though I had spent a lot of time exploring by myself, it was more fun with a friend.

Fabian waggled his index finger at Hadley and I from his spot on the bench. “If I have to tell either of you not to jump down from the top of the slide one more time, you’re both getting spanked and we’re leaving. Am I understood?”

“Yes, Sir,” we answered in unison.

I peered off the top of the ladder and then looked at Hadley.

She groaned. “Ugh.”

“What is it?”

Hadley rolled her eyes. “You obviously can’t remember what it’s like to be spanked with those giant hands connected to even bigger arms. It’s not great when it’s for a punishment. I don’t know how I avoided it this morning.”

Fabian had impressive muscles before he was deployed and after his accident, the gym was one place he enjoyed going more than anywhere else, except maybe fishing with his buddies. The last time Hadley and I were together it had been because Colton had an intense work schedule and didn’t want me to be home alone. I was perfectly capable of doing what I needed alone but it had been after the big fight. Anyway, it didn’t take Hadley and I long to get into mischief. We hadn’t been able to sit comfortably the rest of the night and probably the next day or two after that started with a morning spanking. I owed Hadley a hundred mugs of cocoa.

“Well, yeah, but if we do it together it’s technically a loophole. He said if one of us jumps…”

“You must be feeling extra naughty ‘cause you don’t get a lot of time with my Daddy,” she interrupted. “I understand, I really do but if I can’t sit comfortably at your wedding, I’ll be so annoyed.”

I winked. “I’ll behave next week. And I’ll make it up to you. Jump with me.”

Fabian glanced over at us. Even though we had been speaking very quietly he could probably tell we were up to something.

“Just look one more time at those muscles before you decide to jump,” Hadley warned.

“Serious truth.” I held out my pinky and Hadley linked it in hers. “If you don’t really want me to do it, I won’t.”

“Unless you get us into actual trouble, I probably won’t ever be mad. And even if you did, I know how reasonable my Daddy is. If you’re feeling froggy…” She winked.

“Okay, okay.”

Grabbing her hands, we jumped off the top of the slide and crashed into the ground. The slide was built for adults obviously and even though we could get hurt, it wasn’t likely. Hadley and I collapsed into giggles because it had been such a rush. It was short lived because when we looked up from the ground padded in material to cushion a fall, we were staring at a very stern-looking Fabian. He glanced between the two of us. Hadley gulped and we stopped laughing.

“Are you either of you hurt?” Fabian crossed his arms.
