Tuesday evening came, and I closed shop prepared to meet up with him. We’d planned a midnight rendezvous that started with a drink at Camden’s Pub and ended in my bed. Before we left for Camden’s, he met me at the Sensation Station at nine, and the minute he entered, I fell into his arms, kissing him as though I were a ravaged girl lost in the woods. Letting go of David was hard, but I did it, smiling into his face. “I missed you so much.”

He pinched my behind. “Really? I’ve always wanted to hear you say that.”

“Have you missed me?”

“Humm, let me think! Hell yeah, girl!”

“Really?”

“More than I’ve ever missed any woman.”

“Why do you like me? You hardly know me; you don’t even know about my past.”

“But I want to. I want to know everything about Marliss Tanner. What I do know, I like. You’re terribly gorgeous. The minute I laid eyes on you, my heart fluttered. I love your hair, your scent, the way you talk to me.”

“That’s all?”

He took my face into his hands. “Marliss, that’s just the beginning. The way you use your head lets me know there’s brains in that sexy head. What woman other than you can run this place the way you do? You run this place, Marliss. There’s men in the tri-state area that knows of you and your girls. You’re soo smart, yet you have this little-girl charm about you.” He stood straight, staring into my overwhelmed face. “That’s what I love about you, and I know there’s so much more to learn . . . if you’ll let me.”

The only muscle I could move were the smile muscles on my face. He was such a glorious wonder to me, and the only response to his query was, “Yes; yes, I’ll let you, Mr. Base Commander.”

I locked up and we left together, hand in hand, heart in heart.
