Chief Mol-vin

Commander Janine James, Lieutenant Steve Matthews, and the remaining members of the Helix’s crew followed A-donna through the jungle for the remainder of the day. The voyage was a difficult one, for the foliage was extremely dense in places, and the ground became extremely rocky and uneven, making walking difficult. And if that wasn’t enough, about two hours into their trek, it began to rain, lightly at first, but with increasing intensity as the day wore on. Within no time, they were soaked to the bone, miserable, and extremely tired.

Steve turned to Janine, then shot a questioning glance at A-donna. “Are you sure she knows where we’re heading? This jungle all looks the same to me. For all we know, we could be going in circles.”

A-donna, who was at the front of the group, overheard his comment and responded. “Have no fear, Mr. Matthews. I’ve been through this area many times. We’re almost there.”

“Whatever you say,” Steve responded, but he didn’t sound too reassured.

But A-donna was true to her word. Within an hour, they had arrived at the base of a large, rocky cliff, one that rose up and loomed out of the jungle like a massive stone tower of some sort. Looking up at its summit made Janine’s head spin.

“Follow me,” A-donna said as she led them into a large cave in the cliff’s base. The cave’s mouth was so well hidden by trees and underbrush Janine would have never seen it if it hadn’t been for A-donna’s guidance. The cave’s interior was dark and dreary, but it was actually a relief in many ways because it got them out of the relentless rain. They activated what few light sources they had, mostly just small flashlights and a few illumination sticks, and headed deep into the cave, A-donna leading the way.

They stopped briefly as S’ondra grimaced.

“Wonderful,” she said as she wiped the remnants of a large spider web from her face. She had walked right into it, and she was not amused, not in the least. Like most humans, Rigellians hated spiders.

In the meantime, small, bat-like creatures with glowing eyes chattered at them from the stalactites hanging from the cave’s ceiling.

“This is a wonderful place,” Steve said with a sarcastic smirk. “I think I’ll come here for vacation next time I have some leave.”

But the bat-like creatures weren’t the only things that had been watching them as they made their way through the cave’s seemingly endless twists and turns. Without warning, a large band of creatures emerged from the shadows all around them, surrounding them, with spears and blow guns aimed at their chests.

“Father,” A-donna said. “It’s me. I brought allies.”

One of the creatures moved into the light, where Janine could see it a little better, and she saw it was another member of A-donna’s species, an older male with thick, golden hair. Instead of a spear, like most of the other warriors carried, he had a large club lined with spikes.

“A-donna,” he said with an annoyed growl. “What are you doing here? You know you’re not allowed in the village.
