CHAPTER TEN

Zeus

It’s been a couple days since the Halloween party we had here at the clubhouse and since I went back home with Jolene and ravished her body for all hours of the night. We were flirting and kissing here at the club, which only turned to our romp in the shower, and then we broke her bed in quite a bit.

Jolene is surpassing my wildest expectations. I knew she was kind and understanding from the first night I met her in group, and then I saw more of her personality slip out the day I found her on the side of the road. I surprised myself when I invited her out to the party, but in a good way. It was a much-needed surprise, honestly.

I’ve noticed since Jolene and I have been talking that I’ve been drinking less, getting out of my office more and more, and have even been back in the main area of the clubhouse a lot more than I have been. My daughters have made comments to me about how I seem happier, and I am. In a way, I feel guilty for it. Hell, there’s so much guilt I hold onto because of Razi’s death. The circumstances around it only lead me to believe that Thorn and the Vile Serpents MC had a hand in it.

I know I told my club how we can’t jump to any conclusions, but deep in my heart, I know it was him or them. I was always told growing up to trust my natural instinct, and I do. There’s no shying away from what your body tries to tell you, and Razi’s death wasn’t an accident. The bracelet being shipped to me confirms it, and while the lead we had on the package was a dead end, it doesn’t mean this is over.

My phone dings, and I glance down instinctively. It’s from Jolene.

Hope you’re having a good day.

I smile to myself, appreciating these little things. She’s the type of woman who shows you she cares by checking in, saying good morning or good night, and while I don’t know everything about Jolene, I do think I’ll find out more soon enough. It won’t shock me in the least bit if she’s the type of woman who wants to cook for her family or plans special trips. She might be the type who sends you steaks on your birthday, cookies, or whatever. The more time I spend with Jolene, or even spend texting or chatting with her on the phone, the more I like what I see. I like her a lot, maybe a little more than I should.

I do my best to keep that thought out of my head. Razi and I might not have had the best marriage, but I know she loved me, and I loved her. I have no doubts she’d want me to move on with someone and have something of sustenance. She wouldn’t want me frolicking around with clubwhores until the rest of my days because they don’t actually give a damn about me.
