No Room To Judge

“Um, yeah, I am,” I laughed nervously.

“Lead the way, Serenity,” Everett gestured toward the room. Not wanting to interact with him further, I walked into the room and took a seat in the back. After everything Mikkel told me, I didn’t want to be anywhere near Everett.

It seemed like Everett couldn’t take his eyes off of me for most of the class. I tried my best to stare down at my books, but the intensity of his stare made me look right back at him. It would have been nice to focus on the lecture on realism, but Everett made it hard. Is it because he’s insanely handsome? I pushed that thought to the back of my head and stared down at my useless notes.

After an hour and fifteen minutes of lecturing, he finally dismissed us. I couldn’t wait to get the hell out of there and far away from this class.

“Serenity, can I talk to you for a second?” Everett called out.

I mentally groaned, putting my books back into my bag. Everett watched me as I slowly made my way down to his desk. The way he leaned back in his chair as he eyed me stirred an unsettling feeling in me.

“You’re very quiet. Professor Pierce says you’re intelligent with a lot of good arguments. Where’s that girl tonight?” The corner of his lips slowly pulled up into a smirk.

“I have a lot on my mind today.” That was bullshit, but he didn’t need to know that he made me feel uncomfortable.

“Is there anything I can help with? I know that you don’t know me very well, but your professor will be out for a while, so anything I can do, please let me know,” Everett looked away, rolling up the sleeves of his light blue button-up shirt.

“How long?” I asked.

“Are you trying to get rid of me? I promise I’m not that bad,” Everett frowned. I felt a little bad about being so rude. Technically, I only had one side of the story. I’m not saying that Mikkel was lying, but there are always three sides to a story.

“No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it like that.”

“I can’t be any worse than Mikkel. I’m only kidding. I like to play around with him because we’re good friends. We used to joke around in college,” he laughed.

So I’ve heard.

“So, you were good friends?” I was interested in what Everett would say about Mikkel. I knew about their incident with the guy, so I wanted to see if Everett would mention anything.

“For a while, yes. I’m ashamed to say this, but we partied a lot. Mikkel had a tendency to lose control at times, so I was always there to save him,” he sighed, running his hands through his curls. Okay, that was kind of hot.

“Trouble?” I questioned.

“Getting into fights at parties because he was drunk. Mikkel is so different from what he used to be. I don’t want to bash my friend, but he had a serious drinking problem.
