Territorial issues:

The canine community has a distinct social order. Heading this hierarchy is the pack leader, better known as the alpha dog. Usually the alpha dog achieves his status by being stronger or smarter than the rest.

Sometimes he’s just more domineering.

As leader, the alpha expects first choice in everything, including a mate. Any other dog foolish enough to approach what the leader considers his will be quickly warned off with a direct stare and a low growl. If this is not heeded, the threats will increase to a snarl. He might raise a hind leg to urinate and then claw the ground like a charging bull, with his hackles raised.

When the alpha dog walks stiffly forward, his gaze fixed on the transgressor, owners beware!

Attack is menacingly near.
