Every day, Darling and Lovey Turtledove practiced. They practiced soaring in formation. They practiced hovering like kites. They practiced diving like eagles. They practiced ducking and covering.

And, they were getting better…. Ever so slowly.

One lovely spring afternoon the weather turned foul. A tornado barreled down the prairie. All of the fledglings at Mr. Peregrine’s Flight School panicked, even Mr. Peregrine.

The eaglets flew in circles, screeching for their mamas. Lovey took a deep breath. She remembered what the class practiced.

“Don’t get your feathers ruffled. Remember the drill. Duck and cover.” Darling helped the eaglets get into position.
