Chapter 3

After about an hour, the door opened and Claire walked in followed by Ansh. She looked over her shoulder and said, “Thanks for the escort. Please wait outside the library for us.” Ansh nodded his head and closed the doors. I walked to the library entrance from the bookshelf I was searching. “So you’re okay then?”

Claire nodded her head. “Just a bump on my head. No permanent damage. The doctor gave me a potion of healing just to be on the safe side.”

“Where’s your mother? Didn’t she want to come?” asked Emma who had just appeared around the corner of a bookshelf.

Claire shook her head. “These events have left her a bit shaken. She wanted to go to her private chapel and pray to the Rainbow Creeper for guidance.”

Rupert didn’t bother to greet Claire. He was too engrossed in the books. He was slowly making his way through the volumes in the occult area. And I mean slowly. It looked like there were several thousand books in the occult collection, and he was on book five. He was reading them, not skimming them for information. It was going to take years for him to get through all of them at this rate.

I stopped my search for any of Entity 303’s notes about Ciaran and walked toward Rupert. “Dude, you gotta move a little faster. We need to find something about Ciaran ASAP,” I said.

Rupert scowled at me. “You’ll never understand the academic mind, Jimmy.”

I tilted my head back and laughed. “Yeah, probably not. But I do understand the evil mind. And evil doesn’t wait for a research study to be completed before it creeps up behind you and ends your life. We need to find some information now and act on it.”

Rupert sighed and closed the book he was reading. “Fine then. Maybe the Dretskys will let me come back some other time for more comprehensive research.”

Although he was a whiner, Rupert picked up the pace. He was flipping through a book every few minutes now. I went to the other end of the occult section and began working my way backwards. I hoped we would be able to find something soon. It was clear that Ciaran had the upper hand now. Claire began working with Emma to go through the history section more quickly.
