Henrietta walked into the shop and was happy to see several couples searching through the different rooms which offered antiques from different time periods. Some rooms held a mix-match of decades but certain areas she’d decided to keep true to the period.

After answering a few questions from the customers and helping Jacob check them out and wrap the items, they found a break in the busyness to talk.

“Have you had any luck with the email or phone number?”

“Yes and no,” he said, standing up to dust the nearby shelves with a feather duster. “I was going to call you because I wasn’t sure if you were coming in to the shop today. I am ready for you to send that email.”

Henrietta nodded. She’d already composed it and saved it in her email account but she wondered what it would all entail. When she asked, Jacob explained some of it but most of the words he used were not familiar to her.

“Suffice it to say,” Jacob said, “we’re adding some invisible…uh, text to your email. That’s the best way I can think to explain it to you. The code will help me track where it goes and should send back information to me.”

“Sounds like a good thing.”

“You know what you’re going to stay?” His question, while slightly personal, had more of an informational bent to it, she knew.

“I’ve composed the letter, yes, but my hope is that—while we’ll be able to track him—he’ll come to us of his own accord. I do hope he knows we’re searching for him for the sole reason of wanting to connect with him again. We’re family and for someone who had no family up until I found Clementine, it’s a wondrous thing to know there are more family members out there. If that makes sense.”

Jacob smiled and nodded. “It does, as you know.”

“Ah, true,” she said with a smile. “I’m going to head upstairs for a little while. Should I send you the email I composed?”

“Actually, that’s a good idea,” he admitted. “We’ll go ahead and send it from the work email so that it’s attached to a knowable business. It may make Calvin feel more at ease to know that you’re a real person with a website etc.”

She nodded. “I’ll forward it to you, and you can work your magic.”

He smiled and said goodbye.

While Henrietta’s body felt tired, her mind was twirling with the different aspects of what was turning into two very confusing cases. She stepped into her upstairs apartment and Sepia the cat rushed past her.

“Someone’s hungry, aren’t you?” she asked the cat.

When the Flame Point Siamese rushed to her bowl, Henrietta knew that her answer was yes.

“All right, here you go.” She put a half a cup of dry food in the bowl, noting the cat’s chagrin. At night, Sepia enjoyed a feast of wet food but during the day Henrietta stuck to a dry-food diet. It did seem to help keep the cat in shape even if it made her a bit disgruntled.
