Chapter Nine

Jim rubbed the locator on the end of the cord rhythmically, wondering if Brooklyn was even now gathering field agents together to come retrieve them. Even if they didn’t see another zombie this entire trip, he imagined that Ager was going to need some therapy. Something disturbed him about the infected, and having to interact at such a violent level with them seemed especially traumatic. He wondered if it had anything to do with that famous father of his. As Jason had noted early on in their courtship of Ager, his father had died on a mission pretty similar to this one.

He looked over at his shirtless, dozing lover and smiled. Right now he was pretty exhausted. Thirty minutes and one blow job later Ager was out like a light. It was a definite improvement from the panic he’d been displaying the entire way out of camp.

“Something doesn’t sit right with me about that plane,” Jason said unexpectedly from the driver’s seat.

Jim glanced at him in surprise, meeting his peridot eyes in the rearview mirror. “You think it was deliberate sabotage?” That sounded insane. Yet, there was definitely something suspicious about the strategic placement of the tear. They would’ve gone down almost immediately if they’d tried to take off. If Jason had been just a little less observant… Jim shuddered. He didn’t want to think about it.

“I don’t know what it was to be honest with you.”

The transporter slowed before finally coming to a stop behind some trees just beyond a flat, grassy field. It looked like they were behind an official building of some kind. Was that a baseball field? Yep.

“Old high school. It has been vacant since before the infection spread over the sector,” Jason read aloud as the computer brought up the history and blue prints of the building. He plugged in his portable wrist unit and started downloading. “There is a ground unit that was installed during the first infection for emergency use. We can shack up there until help arrives.”

“Okay. When we get inside, I’ll call Brooklyn,” Jim said. He reached out and drew Ager into his arms. The boy snuggled in close, the warmth of his skin scorching Jimmel through his clothing. Jim’s body was still strung tight from the pleasure he’d given Ager earlier. Release hadn’t been prudent, then but the urge was definitely still there. He pressed a kiss to Ager’s temple and untangled himself.

“We should go check it out beforehand. Ager’s not really dressed for field work,” Jim suggested. He needed a little air anyway. If he stayed in the transporter another minute, he was going to fuck Ager, and he knew it.

“You’re going to leave me alone?” The strangled question was not unexpected. Every muscle that had relaxed in the aftermath of sexual bliss tightened before Jim’s eyes.

He reached out and gave Ager a squeeze. “Shh, baby, no worries. We’ll lock the doors and leave you the keys. If anything approaches the car, honk twice and we’ll be right back.
