“Cain has been on the run. He’s trying to dodge us and doesn’t stay in one place long,” Luther said.

Velika didn’t like the sound of this. Why was he constantly moving around in her territory? Why not leave? He had failed his attempt in kidnapping her mate, so why stay around?

Velika knew the answer.

He was going to try again. It was the only reason why he would risk her men capturing him.

“Where was his last known location?” she asked. Velika rested her hands on the table and stared at the map. It was marked with last known positions of the deranged rogue leader.

“Vancouver.”

Vancouver was a city that was overrun with vampires. Many were supporters of her family and the throne, but as with all cities, there were those who opposed her father. There hadn’t been too many reports coming out of Vancouver until now.

“Our informants have shared with us that the numbers of rogues have increased. There has been a record number of human attacks in the city,” Arad shared.

“Why wasn’t I notified of this?” Velika tried to keep herself from looking in Quinn’s direction. Any changes in her territory should have been brought to her. It was her responsibility to handle any insurgents.

“The Vancouver station had assured me they were handling everything,” Luther said. He folded his arms in front of him. “This was how our informants found out about the surge in numbers. The violence increased.”

“We have a location, and I say we invade it. For the kingdom.” Arad thumped his chest.

“The kingdom,” the other warriors in the room followed suit, banging on their chests.

Velika stared at the map, contemplating the notion. The welcoming ball was going to be held in a week. If they raided the rogue’s lair now, then they would eliminate the threat against her mate. Protecting Quinn was top priority.

“What are the numbers of rogues?” she asked.

“Last we checked, there was over a hundred just in that location,” Luther replied.

She glanced at the both of them, trusting their judgement.

“And the informants you’ve used are reliable?” She raised an eyebrow. If they were going to swarm in on a city, she needed to make damn sure the intel was good.

“Of course.” Luther nodded.

It wasn’t that she was doubting Luther, it was always these unknown informants who could give information to the highest bidder.

“I know of a way you can confirm,” Quinn’s soft voice cut through the tense silence.

All eyes shifted to her. Confidence radiated in her eyes as she met Velika’s gaze.

“And how is that?” Velika asked, curious about the input her mate had to offer.

Quinn sat up straighter. “By speaking with the humans. They will know the areas to avoid, and if it’s true about an increase in violence, then they will be able to confirm it. Had a person approached me in my old town, I would have been able to tell them areas to avoid, where attacks happened and when.”

Velika was impressed with the suggestion. She wouldn’t have thought to speak to the humans about vampires’ whereabouts.
