Brie and the girls spent the next few hours joking with each other as they decorated the barn. After they hung the last strand of garland made from dried flowers and artful vegetation found in the area, the four of them finished by creating pretty floral arrangements for each table using the canning jars as vases.

Brie felt a deep sense of pride when she stood back and saw how beautiful the barn looked. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen a prettier venue for a reception.”

Ruth wrapped her arm around Brie and nodded in agreement.

Looking at her watch, Megan said, “Well, would you look at that? We’re going to just make it in time to watch Ma take those cinnamon rolls out of the oven.”

Christina bolted to the barn door, calling back, “Last one to the house is a rotten egg!”

Brie chased after the three sisters, laughing as she gazed at the sun rising over the plains, marking this special day. Master Anderson was claiming Shey as his wife this afternoon. Little did his soon-to-be bride know that on this very night, she would find out that the man she just married was a millionaire. Brie couldn’t stop smiling to herself just thinking about it.

When she entered the warm kitchen, Brie was shocked to see Ghost Pepper sitting beside Master Anderson. The cat was staring intensely at Anderson’s mom while she worked in the kitchen.

Master Anderson and the black feline turned to look at Brie in unison. It was uncanny and gave Brie a shiver. It was as if the two were one.

“What the heck is Ghost Pepper doing here?” she asked Master Anderson. “Did you really fly him all the way from LA?”

Looking down at the black cat, Master Anderson grinned. “He refuses to leave my side these days. I can’t say I mind.”

He then looked over at his mother scurrying around in the kitchen. “It seems that I might have some competition, however. Ghost seems right smitten with my mama.”

Brie giggled as she watched the cat follow Mrs. Anderson’s every move, his tail twitching in excitement.

The moment Sir walked into the room, he glanced at Brie with an amused expression on his face.

Master Anderson nodded to him before asking Brie, “So, how did you enjoy mucking out the barn this morning?”

She frowned when she answered. “It was…” Pausing for a moment, Brie glanced from him to Sir, then to Master Anderson’s mother and father, before her lingering gaze landed on his three sisters who had perpetrated the prank, “Hilarious!”

Master Anderson slapped her on the back as his family joined in his laughter. “Welcome to the family, young Brie.”

Brie didn’t miss the mischievous glint in Sir’s eyes when he walked up to her and pulled her into his warm embrace.

Grinning up at him, she said, “I can’t believe you let me walk into that, Sir…”

He raised an eyebrow. “I’ve been acutely aware of how much you’ve wanted to know what happened between Anderson and I on my first visit to this ranch.
