Seventeen

I was blindly walking through the halls and didn’t see Nykos until I walked right into him.

“Sorry.” I mumbled, trying to walk around him but he held me tight.

“Look at me.” He commanded and I glanced into his eyes, then looked around him. I couldn’t face him, couldn’t look him in the eye after what I had done. I was disgusted with myself.

“Lilith. What happened?” He demanded and I shook my head. He pulled me down the hall into my bedroom and sat me on the bed. He pushed a glass of water into my hand and waited as I sipped from it.

“I can smell the sex on you, Lilith. I can smell Archer’s scent. What happened?” He said quietly, kneeling between my legs to look me in the eye.

I sobbed, the realization of what I had done crashing into me.

“I…I forced myself on Archer. I..” my voice broke, and I closed my eyes.

“I hurt him. Something inside me wanted to cause him pain, humiliation like he had done to me.” I whispered the words and Nykos let out a long sigh, pulling me to him and hugged me tightly.

When he didn’t speak, I cried louder, hating myself even more.

“Someone had tortured Archer. He is covered in scars.” I mumbled against Nykos’s chest. He pulled back and stared at me with pity.

“I know. Helion told me. I suspect that has something to do with the broken soul that he is.” I sat in silence for along time as Nykos sat next to me rubbing circles on my back. I didn’t deserve his kindness. I had just done an unspeakable thing to one of the men.

I was just as much a broken soul, a monster as the man I said Archer was. I looked at Nykos, numb through to my core.

“In the end, maybe we are all just monsters with broken souls.” He watched me for a moment.

“Perhaps. Or perhaps we are just broken souls looking for the light to fill the void and make us whole again.” He said quietly. I thought over my own actions and laughed bitterly.

“And what if there is no light to be found, only darkness?” My soul certainly felt full of darkness right now.

“There is always light within the dark, for how else do we know it is dark?” He said and I turned to him, raising an eyebrow.

“You are surprisingly optimistic for someone who is so dark and mysterious.” He smiled then, tucking a hair behind my ear.

“I am only this way because I now know I have found my light, so I know it is true.” I frowned at him.

“And where did you find your light?” If he could find the light in the darkness, surely, I could too after this. He leant in close, brushing his lips over mine.

“I found it in you. You are my light.” He whispered and my stomach fluttered at his words. I jerked backwards and stared at him in shock.

“How can you say that after what I have just done?” my voice rose, and I tried to pull away, but he held me in place.
