“Thank you,” Logan said to the stranger as he paced the living room.

He had gotten Keeton cleaned up and tucked into their bed. Keeton didn’t move or make a sound through the entire process. He seemed to be resting peacefully, but Logan needed him to open his eyes.

“He’s going to be fine.” The wolf walked up to Logan and held out a hand. “Blaise Taylor. Keeton’s cousin.”

Logan shook the male’s hand and nodded. “You look like him. I’m Logan Cartwright. Keeton’s mate.”

Blaise mirrored his nod and swept a hand toward the sofa, motioning for Logan to sit. The other members of the pack gathered around, some standing, some taking up other empty seats.

Braxton remained upstairs with Keeton, refusing to leave his friend’s side. Logan understood the feeling, but he needed to know what the hell had just happened. He appreciated that Braxton would be there to care for his mate in his absence, though.

Looking around the room at each of his brothers, he realized he had a lot to be grateful for. “Thank you for helping me save my mate.”

Xander stood at the end of the sofa and folded his arms over his chest. “Keeton is one of us,” he said simply. “I don’t know what’s going on, or what just happened on the front lawn, but I’ll do whatever I can to help you protect him.”

“He’s family,” Talon added.

“Whatever you need from us,” Jackson said. “Just ask.”

“No way am I going back to being the only herbivore around here.” Boston shrugged. “Besides, the little asshole has kind of grown on me.”

Logan swallowed around the lump in his throat and nodded in gratitude. A part of him had known they would all have his back, but it comforted him to hear the words.

“Well, you know I’m here to protect Keeton.” Blaise spoke from his place by the stone hearth. He turned, speaking to Xander directly. “I’m sorry for not announcing my presence, but there wasn’t time.” He crossed the room, stopping a couple of feet away, and dipped his head in respect. “With your permission, I would like to stay until the threat has been neutralized.

The “threat” being Mariah, and “neutralized” being dead. At least, that was what Logan took away from his statement, and he was completely on board with the plan.

Xander clapped the wolf on the shoulder and grinned. “You are welcome here for as long as you’d like.”

Blaise smiled and nodded in return. “Thank you, Xander.”

The guy seemed pretty great, but honestly, he could have been the biggest prick on the planet, and Logan would still feel indebted to him. If not for him, he very well could have lost his mate.

He shuddered as he recalled Mariah’s face just before she had torn into Keeton’s neck.

Inky black had filled her eyes, spreading from corner to corner. Her naturally olive skin had blanched to a pale gray, and dark blue veins had snaked across her face and down her neck. Rows of razor-sharp teeth had filled her mouth, and her painted nails had lengthened into lethal talons.
