“Not much further now,” said Rosa, pointing ahead of them. “I can see the other side of the trench.”

The seahorses pushed as hard as they could through the swirling glitter and the first two had nearly made it on to the bank when the carriage jolted backwards. It was no use; the current was too strong for the four seahorses to swim against.

“Princesses,” shouted Buttercup, “I’ve got an idea. The carriage is too heavy and we aren’t going to make it. Throw your luggage out over the side. That might be just enough to get us safely on to the bank.”

“Our bags!” exclaimed Violet. “What about our outfits? We’ll have nothing to wear to the Glitter Ball.”

“Don’t worry about that,” said Buttercup. “If we don’t throw them out, the seahorses will be in serious trouble. We need to do it now!” she said, tossing her own sparkly yellow weekend bag over the side and into the deep ocean. The others did the same as quickly as they could.
