0.0Head north from Gate 26 on gravel Laurel Hill Road under Piedmont pine/oak woods.

0.2Split right with Slick Hill Trail, a doubletrack path. Descend northeasterly.

0.7Reach an auto turnaround. The path morphs to singletrack.

0.9Meet the New Hope Creek South Trail. Stay right, making a little loop before turning west and heading upstream along New Hope Creek, making quite a splash as it flows.

1.2Come near an island in the stream. Keep west, bridging intermittent streambeds flowing into New Hope Creek.

1.3Keep straight after intersecting the Laurel Hill Trail.

1.4Reach a prominent outcrop overlooking the creek.

1.5Meet the High & Dry Trail. Stay straight on the New Hope Creek South Trail.

1.6Keep straight as the Creek Connector heads left. However, if you want a bluff-top view, take the Creek Connector to the Rhodo Bluff Spur to the view. This hike stays along the creek on the New Hope Creek South Trail. Work upstream amid boulders and over outcrops, directly beside the stream, below hemlock and rhododendron.

1.7Step over an unnamed creek. Continue up the New Hope Creek valley in a rocky, wooded floodplain. Pass an old stone fence from long-ago farming days.

1.9Reach the fork at Concrete Bridge Road. Turn left on doubletrack, climbing.

2.4Turn left on the Gate 25 to Gate 26 Connector. Enter a restored pine/wiregrass ecosystem. Cross two drainages.

2.8Head right on Laurel Hill Road. Ahead, the Laurel Hill Trail comes in on your left.

2.9Reach a hilltop and the Slick Hill Trail. Keep right, now backtracking.

3.1Return to the trailhead, completing the hike.
