“How did you get out?” he said and grabbed hold of poor Mabel and stuffed her into one of the cages between two other chickens. Mabel squawked, but the man took no notice, he simply walked over to the door and punched in a number on a key pad. After the doors opened he left and the chicken house door closed on the sound of the quad-bike driving away.

Bernard crawled forward on his belly and climbed out from underneath the chicken cages and trotted over to where Mabel was trapped. Her horrid metal cage was on the lowest row so Bernard and Mabel could see each other.
