“Afternoon, Gerri, thank you for coming over.” Lux frowned at him. He was being too formal and knew it. But Gerri’s presence meant it was time to spill long buried secrets.

“Harlow, dear, you wouldn’t happen to have any, tea would you? I find tea makes everything better.” Gerri walked over to the kitchen table and sat. Osian watched Lux walk over and squeeze Harlow’s shoulder.

“I got this, love. Just relax.” Harlow glanced up at him and smiled. Osian wondered if she knew how much love she put into that expression. By the look on Gerri’s face, she saw it, too.

“Ma’am, we were just eating brunch. Would you care to join us?” He audibly swallowed when she turned a shrewd smile his way.

“Brunch, yes, I do love a good brunch. I enjoy even more things that happen that cause one to miss breakfast.” Osian felt his cheeks heat for the first time since he was a teenager. He glanced up to see Harlow blushing and Lux smirking behind her.

“I brought you a plate so you could dine and the tea is steeping. It will be just a moment.” Lux sat across from Gerri and picked up his fork to continue eating.

“Harlow, I’m very happy you decided to trust me and let these two into…your life and bed. Now, tell me, have you explained about your family’s beliefs yet?” Osian watched as Harlow’s face paled and she nodded to Gerri.

“Good, now I have some news to share, but I think maybe Osian has something he wants to share with you two first. Am I right?” Gerri smiled at him and he saw kindness staring at him. He took a deep breath and glanced at Lux who sat patiently.

“You asked why I was acting so strange lately, right? Mostly you wanted to know about my nerves when it came to Gerri Wilder.” Osian paused long enough to gauge everyone’s reaction to his question. Lux nodded and leaned forward so his elbows rested on either side of his plate. Harlow had pushed her plate away and just sat listening to him.

“I reminded you next week was the anniversary of my family’s death.” Harlow’s gasp drew his attention and he saw her shaking her head and staring at him. When she didn’t say anything, he continued speaking. “A couple years after I came to live with you, I received a letter in the mail. It was from a Gerri Wilder.” This time he paused and glanced at Gerri to give her a soft smile. She reached out and patted his arm lightly, and then turned to Lux.

“Osian, why didn’t you ever tell me? What was the letter about?” Lux’s voice held both anger and confusion. Os figured the anger was his right. It was a big secret to keep, especially after she had contacted them this week.

“I was ten, and thought it was crazy, that she was crazy.” Osian glanced at Gerri with a sheepish smile. “No offense. The letter said no matter the pain I endured now, later I would find my true place with my best friend and mate.
