CHAPTER 12
Glory warned me against dream walking, but Iâm willing to risk everything if it means saving Prince Relicant. My room is dark. Glory and Emelda are somewhere on the other side of my closed door; I donât know where they sleep in this suite. My bed is large â it could easily fit two people, three if we squished. But Iâm alone in here, which is exactly how I want it.
I donât know how to start a dream walk on purpose. Iâve mostly been visited inside my own dreams, but I have initiated one or two. I just donât know how itâs happened.
But I do know one thing. The visitor in the dream walk is the one whoâs in control. So when I step into Prince Relicantâs dream, the way Iâm planning to do, anything that I do to him in the dream really happens to him in real life. Anything he does to me is just a dream.
If I rescue him from whatever situation has befallen him, will he wake up in his own bed? Thatâs what Iâve been led to believe. So thatâs what Iâm going to do.
I just donât know how to initiate this. The one time I knew a dream walk was coming, it was because Glory and I exchanged glistening powder kernels. We both scraped a little off of each otherâs skin, rolled it into a ball, and then tucked that little ball of the other personâs glistening powder into our lower eyelids. It was painful and gross, but it worked.
I believe I started a dream walk at least one time, but I donât remember what happened for most of that event. Apparently, Glory and I interacted a lot, things were said, other things happened, but when I came to, I was driving a car at a high rate of speed. Iâd never driven a car in my life, and Iâd only been a passenger a time or two. Glory was losing her mind because she thought I was going to wreck the car and kill her in a dream. So I strongly believe I was the dream instigator that time; I just donât know how I did it.
Iâve been visited in dreams many times, by Snow, by Prince Relicant, by Glory, but Iâve only used the glistening powder kernel method once. I know that I get fewer dream visitors than I might otherwise because of a tendency I have to shield myself without even knowing Iâm doing it. I donât know how any of them started a dream walk sequence the other times. Snow told me Minerva taught her how to do it, and that Snow would, in turn, teach me, but that has never happened.
I wonder if Minerva would share the secret with me, if I could somehow get a hold of her. Maybe she would be easier, and safer, to reach than someone the Rotunda might think Iâd try to connect with in a dream.
I really donât think theyâd execute me, at this point, if I were to be caught dream walking.
