Pushing our carts through the next store, we find the aisle with the faux Christmas trees and get to shopping. I would love to have real, live trees in each room but I know some people are allergic, so plastic trees it is. But I am definitely putting a real one in the foyer. Looking up and down the aisle I spot smaller ones, about four feet tall. They’ll fit perfectly in the corner of each room. I pick up four of them and drop them into my cart. Next, we shop the ornament aisle. Overwhelmed, I make a quick decision.

“You know what? I say we keep it simple. And classic.”

Abs looks and me and just shrugs. She doesn’t really care either way.

“We can add more to it, later.”

She nods, bending down to snag a box of glass ornaments.

“Like this?” she asks, holding up red and green ones.

“Yes. But also blue and silver. And white.”

Gently laying the box in the cart, she snags additional boxes for each tree, keeping with the colors for each room.

“And for the rest, let’s grab reindeer and Santa ornaments. And snowflakes. And sleds. Let’s keep it winter and Christmas themed,” I tell her.

“Do they all have to be the same?”

“No. They can be all different kinds, sizes, and colors. As long as they’re not ugly, it’s fine with me.”

She gives me a jaunty salute and wades through the glut of ornaments, while I look for lights. Loaded down, we have everything we need to decorate four mini Christmas trees and a standard sized tree. Ribbon, lights, and ornaments included. In the end, we’ve got everything we need. And then some.

“What’s next?” Abs asks.

“Let’s get decorations for the tables. I’m thinking candles, lanterns, and wreathes.”

She nods, heading toward the kitchen section. Browsing, we find enough decorations for the tables. And so finally, after almost five hours, we’re done shopping.

With Abbie’s help, I lug the rest of our purchases outside and load them into my SUV. It’s pretty much filled to the brim, which is almost comical because I still haven’t gotten everything I need for the B&B—I still need tableware for my guests. It seems I have more shopping to do. But since I need items in bulk, I’m going to just order the rest. Tired, yet happy, it’s time to head home. Back to Foxtail Ridge.
