Venus
Retaining emotions is an act not many can master; most are blank about how others feel but are experts in their fancies.
D o enemies arise only from prejudice? The officials are often blind to the lack of evidence in sight. Making me wonder if discrimination is a mere play of power and authority.
Arrogance.
I am hounded like a felon from the hotel to the interim facility. The media is prudent when choosing their words. I will be named a suspect somewhere in their airing until proven guilty. In the eyes of the people watching me, I am written off as a criminal before my crime is established.
The Media-Bots cover this historic arrest.
Lux Kaska, the lead detective, takes particular comfort in my ruination. She pauses before entering the building to give a mini statement. âJustice shall prevail, no matter the social standing.â She hands a snippy thumbs up and whirls around, leading me to my vilification.
An officer drags me through the intake process. Then I am taken to an interrogation room to make me understand the charges being brought against me. Lux is about to park her self-assured rear behind when Ace and his father make a noticeable entry. She gives them an arrogant look waving her hands, asking them to sit beside me. Ace brushes my thighs lightly under the table, snubbing aside the fact that it is transparent.
Lux could see the compassionate gesture if she wanted to, which she didnât. How arrogant is she to think Ace would be permanently loyal to her?
Yes. I know. My forgiver is engaged to my faultfinder.
âBased on your voluntary testimony and Mr. Hamar Tanó Melanthaâs autopsy report. You, Mrs. Venus Umbra Melantha, have been charged with second-degree manslaughter. Other allegations filed are one count of aggravated assault with intent to murder, driven by adultery. Six counts of obstruction of justice, five counts of Digi-Crime, four counts of Ether-Plexus intrusion, lying about your whereabouts the night of the murder and the morning afterâ¦.â
Everything goes silent after that. The list is much longer from all appearances. The way Luxâs self-approving mouth keeps moving, I should be falling apart, collecting the extent of charges being brought against me. But it is easier and native to shut it down and let it go.
I surrender.
Concluding her assertions, Lux gets up. âIâll give you five minutes with your client. Considering our previous professional relationship, TrAce, you may stay with them even though I donât see how you fit in this picture. An officer will be here to collect the arraigned subject soon.â
Arraigned Subject! That is what I am.
Ace completely ignores her. Mr. Taso flashes a trite smile and starts studying the Delphic-Log to analyze the charges as Lux closes the door behind her.
âHow are you, Venus?â
âI am well. Thank you for taking up my case, Mr. Taso.â
âI know how important you are to Ace.â
I slaughter my smile with a hard gulp. âHow is Torina?â
âShe is doing great. You should visit us when all this is said and done.â
âOf course.â My eyes well up at his warm disposition.
