Once I open the door, Iâm proven wrong. My date isnât the one waiting for me. A man in a suit is standing on my front porch with a note from my date. In the note is an explanation of why Cross isnât the one at my door. He states he didnât want me to think heâd stood me up. Apparently, there was a package he wanted to have delivered to my house and he had to check on it. It is something he wanted to ensure arrived to the correct location. In the instructions, he states he wants me to come out onto the front porch.
I look up from the paper but all I see is the big, driver man. He steps to the side and I have an altogether different reason for my mouth dropping open.
âOh my goodness! Wow!â I scream, rushing out the front door.
I turn back to face the driver man but get distracted by something I see in my periphery. Although I love the surprise waiting for me on my front porchâa porch swing that I mustâve mentioned during our first dateâI am more mesmerized by the showstopper currently getting a heavenly bath on the curb. Recognition hits me the instant my gaze falls on the vehicle.
Luke, Aaliyah, and Elijah would all be proud of me. I am shocked by how quickly I recognize the car currently parked in front of my home. It is sleek and gorgeous. As soon as I see it, I want to ride in it, drive it, drape myself over it, take pictures with it as evidence that it was really here.
Some part of me wants this car to be his just so I can fulfill all or at least one of those secret desires. Another side doesnât want to appear materialistic. Hope ignites in my system as I look around and notice no other cars on the street that look like anything Cross would drive. Even with its ostentatious beauty, it fits his cool and calm demeanor. When the head and tail lights flash and a little chirp sounds, my hope level soars. Itâs then that I see Cross looking like the type of man this car was designed for. The man makes this car look like a scrap of metal.
From there, my mind begins to work overtime trying to make sense of everything Iâve learned about Cross. There are dots that still need to be connected in order for me to fully understand.
My goodness! What does this man do that he can afford to drive around in vehicles like this one?
Please, please, oh please, donât let this man be one of those crooked cops who gets paid for doing things I donât want my mind envisioning right now. Iâm going to remain positive and believe Cross isnât into any illegal dealings. I donât know how Iâd handle it if that were the big surprise tonight.
Please let the big surprise of the night be something great and not something
