"You're not going, Elliot. You’re not going anywhere near that lighthouse."

“Why? Because Riabette could get out? She’s already out, Jay! She has a real body!”

“Which makes her even more dangerous. You’re not going.”

Elliot couldn’t blame Jay for being terrified. He himself was shaking, and currently lying down with a debilitating headache. Not exactly in prime hero rescue condition.

They’d taken what they thought was the smart route, and called the police, who’d ordered them to stay put at Andy’s house while they went and searched Elliot’s lighthouse property. The police found it abandoned, as it should be. No Rio. No Andy.

The party guests had all left, freaked out by the cops being there. Now the four of them gathered in Andy’s bedroom: Elliot, Jay, Rafe, and Connie.

“Rio was probably just fucking with you on the phone,” Rafe said. “He probably talked Andy into driving him home. Andy was beyond enamored, I could see him leaving his own party for sex with Rio. They’re probably banging right now.”

“No,” Elliot said. “He could not have known that name. Riabette. Not as it relates to me and Jay. We’ve never repeated it to anyone.”

“So Rio is Riabette.” Jay shuddered. “Right?”

“I don’t know, Jay. I guess he must be.”

“Andy’s car is gone!” Rafe said. “The plausible explanation is he drove Rio home and they’re both still there. Connie, where does he live?”

Connie shrugged. “Rio doesn’t have a home right now, he’s been staying in a hotel. He…Riabette doesn’t know how to drive a car. She can’t even read.”

“Which means Andy drove, of his own free will,” Rafe said. “I rest my case.”

“Unless Andy was incapacitated,” Jay said. “Why does Rio have Andy’s phone? And how hard is it to learn to drive a car? I’m sure Riabette could figure it out, especially if she’s been riding with other people.”

“I’ve had Rio in my car with me a lot the last couple days,” Connie said.

“And Andy drove Rio to the party tonight,” Jay said.

“She learns fast,” Elliot said. “Figured out how to use Andy’s cell phone to call me.”

Rafe shook his head. “But Andy’s a grown man. How would she incapacitated him?”

“She is in a male body, remember,” Jay said. “Young and strong.”

“And Riabette has unnatural strength when she’s not weakened,” Elliot said. “Even when she was in Jay’s body, exhausted, I had trouble holding her down. But her strength won’t last. And if she’s spent a lot of it on transporting Andy, that can work in our favor.”

“Unless she already sipped Andy’s soul,” Connie said. “That gains her strength.”

Elliot jolted. “I don’t think she’d do that if making me love her is the goal. She must realize I care about Andy.”

“She gives no fucks about anything but what she cares about,” Connie said. “Getting what she wants any way she can is her goal. Riabette in David...Rio? You can’t apply human morality to the way he thinks. I’ve spent the past two days with him. I don’t fully understand all of what I witnessed, but I know he can hurt people.
