He looked up from the desk to see Lady Moss walk back in, only now she wasn’t wearing her dress, or any of the clothes she’d been wearing at the party.

She quite took the breath away.

“What do you think?” she smiled, putting one of her bare feet up on the glass coffee table a few yards away from Jonah and the desk. “Still got it?”

Jonah nodded, and he did feel himself stiffening at the sight of the ravishing naked blonde, but at the same time he felt the cold claw of fear clutching at his heart. If she knew he’d been copying the pictures in any way, she might not be so warm toward him.

“You look incredible,” he said, unfastening a couple of buttons as though to distract her from the fact that his phone was still sitting out on the desk on top of the photographs.

She stood there, smiling in delight at his response while she ran her fingers lightly over her body and her thighs, and she didn’t seem to have noticed the phone, or if she had, she hadn’t connected it with the ability to take unauthorized snapshots of the pictures.

Without even tearing his eyes away from her, he was able to take his phone and slip it into a pocket, then shuffle the stack of photographs into a more orderly pile.

Lady Moss slowly walked toward him, a leopard on the prowl.

She leaned over the desk, giving him a superlative view of her cleavage as well as a fresh chestful of her scent. She said, “Anything interesting in those pictures?”

“A few things,” he said.

“Like?”

“When I’ve seen wives through the Network, I end up being given a little card with letters on it.”

“I’m not sure that’s really my area.”

“But you know it happens? There’s nothing like that at any of the larger events, the Breeding Party. Tonight, or in any of these pictures.”

“No.”

“You know what it is? The letters could be a stock code...”

Lady Moss shrugged, “Some kind of sponsorship, I was always led to believe. Conferences have sponsorship these days, don’t they? Advertising. You think it might be connected to the killings?”

“I don’t know. Perhaps, perhaps not.”

“You see anything suspicious in the pictures?”

He sighed. “I saw my brother in some of them.”

“Your brother?”

“I guess he was involved in the Network after all.”

Lady Moss looked at him with sympathy, though also perhaps solidarity. She said, “I’m sure it wasn’t anything to do with his death.”

Jonah nodded. “It just might be where the killer found her victims.”

“I suppose that’s possible,” she said. “You think I should give these pictures to the police? I’m not sure I’d be allowed...”

She showed a note of fear at the prospect of giving up the pictures to the authorities. Perhaps the Network was nothing to do with the deaths itself, but it would take action against Lady Moss for betraying its secrets.

“We could tell my friend, she’s very discreet. She could take a look at these.”

He reached up to hold her head in both hands, to kiss her lips.
