Learning Her Place

When I woke up the next morning, a sense of disbelief came washing over me. If it wasn’t for the surroundings I was in, I might almost have thought everything that happened the previous night was some crazy dream. But the evidence of our unexpected sex lay all around me.

I was lying naked in Shannon’s big bed. “Well, good morning,” she said.

“Morning,” I said back. I felt self-conscious around her now in a way I never had, knowing what had happened the night before. I could remember every detail, but playing it back in my mind, it seemed almost like something that happened to another person. After all, these kind of games were so far outside my normal experience, so contrary to the kind of person I thought I was. Maybe it was just easier to pretend it wasn’t me who had begged this woman for sex, who had debased herself completely for the promise of physical pleasure.

“How are you feeling?”

As she spoke, Shannon reached out and placed a hand gently on my arm.
