Chapter 25 The Philosopher

Laylee

“Who’s the best drug dealer ever.” I burst into Kal’s art studio, holding a silver case with Sharova in tow.

The Russian succubus also carried her suitcase with a smug look written on her face.

Kal turned his head, pausing mid-brush stroke on his painting. At the same time, Ruslan’s body stiffened with a frown.

“Ruslan, you should have Laylee on our team. The girl is a goddess at negotiating.” Sharova placed her suitcase and a black duffle bag on the table full of paints.

I loved the art of the deal and couldn’t stop smiling at my victory. It was the first time in a while I felt the exhilarating sales rush since my staff took hold of the wheel.

“I got you forty million instead of the twenty you wanted,” I beamed.

Ruslan opened one of the suitcases, revealing our reward in currency.

“How did you manage that?” He reached for a stack of money.

“I’m a sales beast, Russ. I also got them on what you can call a subscription plan. I took forty up front, and they will have a steady supply if they pay the twenty-five mill a month,” I explained, watching him count a stack.

“And you got the bloodsucker, Buryakov, to do this?” Ruslan questioned skeptically.

“They loved me. I had to butter them up, then boom, I had a deal,” I boasted. “I made it sound like they couldn’t live without these little fuckers.” I held one of the pills between my fingers. “Oh, and thank you for telling me you’re a mafia boss. I went in there blind, asshole.”

Ruslan stopped counting for a brief moment and snorted. “The mafia has nothing on me, Rabbit.”

“This is why I said send Laylee fucking Joseph,” Kal spoke, setting his brush down and raising his hands, presenting me.

“Russ is bitter because he’s sent several of his underlings, and the vampires refused to do business with him,” Kal continued to the personal bar area pouring four glasses of champagne. “Let’s celebrate Laylee’s victory,” He boomed, pushing a glass into everyone’s hand.

“Is there anything you don’t celebrate?” Ruslan grumbled when Kal shoved everyone close for a toast.

“I will celebrate life until my eternal rest,” Kal laughed, holding his glass in the air and urging us to follow. “To Laylee. The succubus that can charm the most cold-hearted of beasts.”

I snorted. “Can someone let August know that?” I whispered before downing the glass in one gulp.

“Don’t be sad. Agnar doesn’t like anyone,” Ruslan muttered, setting his empty glass on the bar. I wrinkled my nose at him while he and Sharova grabbed the suitcases and exited without another word. If he was trying to make me feel better, he sucked at it.

“It’s odd that Agnar would find a succubus so outgoing,” Kal topped off our champagne.

“So it’s not only me that thinks he’s so dark and eerie. I thought it was because he was a demon, but you guys aren’t like that… Ruslan is shady, but August is so reserved.” I sat on the vacant paint-splattered couch but not before making sure it was dry.
