CHAPTER TEN

A New Home and A New Job

It was now four years since the accident and my lawyer phoned to say, “I am expecting your settlement cheque to come in, very soon, start looking for your house.” This I did with the help of an agent, who took me to see a certain home. It was along a country lane, the home looked like a cottage, tucked in between tall pine trees. The Inside of the home was so lovely and warm, two bedrooms, a living room, a beautiful eat-in kitchen, the bathroom beautifully done, then down a few stairs to a stone-paved sunroom looking out onto a lovely garden with fruit trees and the most beautiful weeping birches.

As I was leaving to get into the car, the Lord stopped me, and said, “take a look around.” I gasped, my prayer to the Lord, He was answering it. It was the little house in the country, with a garden for my dogs. “Oh Lord, this is exactly what I had prayed for, look at all those beautiful trees.” Excited, I said to my agent, “I’m going to make an offer.” After going back and forth a few times, we all came to an agreement. I was overjoyed and could not stop praising the Lord. Father, how faithful you are to me.

I now had a new job; I was working in the administration of a large store chain in the center of Winnipeg It had taken a while to get used to the job, but I enjoyed the work. Yes, it was tiring and stressful, but I was determined to make a go of it and succeed.

After getting settled into my new home, I saw that there was a Baptist Church down at the end of the road from my home, so I decided that I would start attending. The teaching was so much better here than at my previous church and I was learning so much. I became involved with the large choir there, Oh, it was wonderful, how I enjoyed this. The choir director was amazing and made the practice sessions so enjoyable. I was incredibly happy here at this church, I felt settled.

However, at work was a different story, I was put under a lot of stress again and eventually became ill. I went to see my doctor who said no work for two weeks. The very next day, my supervisor phoned me and said I was to come straight into work. Of course, I was not able to. Every day, she would phone me and order me into work. Every day, I was in a flood of tears and became even sicker. I went to see my doctor again, who put me in the care of a consultant, who told me that I would have to stop working, my nervous system and my body was breaking down, and that this would get worse unless I listened to advice. Therefore, with the help of the consultant, I was able to go on disability.
