Solder the pin header keeping the tin very close to the iron soldering tip

Putting in contact the tip solder with the tin is not always the preferred method for soldering. With practice you'll understand when it’s appropriate to follow a method rather than another.

In the case shown in the figure we preferred light contact because of the small size of the pad.

As a general rule keep in mind that a well-made soldering contains the strictly necessary amount of tin. This means that if you decide to put in contact the tip and the tin you must do it for the shortest time possible.
