How do you feel knowing God has a special interest in you as a young woman?

Two: God wanted to protect land rights. Earlier in our study of Ruth, we learned how God had promised the Israelites land. (It’s referred to as the Promised Land.) And not only did God provide land for the nation of Israel, but he also gave each tribe a specific portion of land and each family within the tribe a certain piece of land as well.

But we also learned that a family could lose its land. If you’ll flip back to BITE #2 in chapter two, you’ll recall the example of Mr. Smith. He owns forty acres of land, but his crops haven’t produced, so he sells his land to Mr. Jones (who can only purchase the mortgage for up to fifty years; after that time the land will go back to the Smith family).

Okay, we understand that. It was God’s way of keeping the land in the family. But now we see God going a step further to protect land rights. What if a widow married a stranger? He’d have automatic rights to her property. This law (that the widow had to marry within the family of her deceased husband) was God’s way of protecting the land for the people.

The Bible makes it extremely clear that God is interested in every one of our needs!
